Book Signing Celebration on YouTube and Facebook

Video recordings of the 2014 Book Signing Celebration are now available to be viewed on YouTube. Each author or artist appears as an individual segment, so you can easily choose what you want to watch. The channel name is "The Grannie Annie FSC." In order to protect the privacy and safety of the artists and authors, individual segments are identified by story title. The numbers included in the segment titles refer to the order in which students presented at the Book Signing Celebration.

Read the Stories / View the Illustrations!

The stories and illustrations published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 9, are now posted on this website. If you prefer to hold a lovely book in your hand as you read, you're invited to order a copy. And remember that Grannie Annie story collections make excellent gifts for everyone, including teachers, family, and friends. Consider sending Grannie Annie volumes to loved ones who are seniors, and to those you know who have shared their own oral histories through the years.

The Selected Illustrations — and the Book!

Congratulations to the 13 young artists whose illustrations will be published and exhibited by The Grannie Annie! We received so many submissions again this year that there were several strong illustrations to choose between, for each story — having an illustration selected is a significant honor. Special congratulations to Luke Allen, whose illustration is featured on the cover of Grannie Annie, Vol. 9.

You can now sneak a peek at Vol. 9! Check back often in the days and weeks ahead — more details about the ongoing celebration will be posted as they become available.

Revised Plan!

The Grannie Annie's 2014 Celebration event will be held one week earlier than had been planned - Sunday, June 1, 2014. The event will take place in St. Louis at the Missouri History Museum, Lindell and DeBaliviere in Forest Park.

While The Grannie Annie regrets the need to make these changes (see previous posting for details) we are very excited about the new plan and trust you will be as well.

Published Grannie Annie authors will read their stories, published artists will talk about their illustrations, the professionally printed and matted art from Grannie Annie, Vol. 9, will be on exhibit, and the authors and artists will sign your copies of the book. Books can be purchased via this website and will also be available at the Missouri History Museum gift shop.

Published authors and artists, please check back often for updates posted here and on the "Information for Published Students" page. You can find a link to this page at the top left of the Grannie Annie home page.

ALERT: Revised Plan to be Announced

Due to the unexpected closing of the Left Bank Books downtown location, the Author Reading / Art Show / Book Signing plans will change. Planning is under way, and the new plan details will be announced on this web page as soon as possible.

This year's celebration would have marked the sixth year of The Grannie Annie's partnership with Left Bank Books. We were very sorry to learn of the store's imminent closing and wish the owners all the best as they explore options for the future.

The Selected Stories

Sincere congratulations to the 35 young authors whose historical family stories will be published this year, in Grannie Annie, Vol. 9! These soon-to-be-published authors can be very proud of this honor, as The Grannie Annie received more stories this year than ever before — 449, to be exact — and so very many were well-told, memorable stories.

Two identical editions will be published again this year — a paperback edition and a PDF edition. The 35 stories in Grannie Annie, Vol. 9, will also be published on this website.

Published authors, please look at the "Information for Published Students" page. (You can find a link to this page at the top left of the Grannie Annie home page.) You'll find information about your complimentary copies of Volume 9, this year's Author Reading / Art Show / Book Signing and the read-aloud coaching sessions to prepare for that event.

Please plan to check back often — news will be added here as this year's celebration unfolds. You'll be able to sneak a peak at Volume 9, learn about the third annual Grannie Annie exhibition of illustrations, and more!

Storykeepers HonoredStories Selected

Students, if you shared your family story with The Grannie Annie, your name should appear on this page. Please check to be sure your name is included and is spelled correctly, and let us know of any problems. These names will also be published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 9, honoring the Grannie Annie Storykeepers 2014!

The stories selected to be published, representing all the wonderful stories received this year, will be announced on this page soon. Authors of those stories will also receive an e-mail from The Grannie Annie.

Still Celebrating!

Authors, parents, teachers, family members — We hope you are continuing to celebrate the wonderful Grannie Annie stories written this year. Please let us know what your Grannie Annie celebration includes so we can share your ideas with others on "The Grannie Annie Extension Activities" page.

Everyone at The Grannie Annie has spent weeks reading and appreciating this year's stories! Each story submitted to The Grannie Annie has been read by three or four members of the Selection Committee; some stories have been read by as many as eight readers! How we wish we could publish every story we have received, as each one shares a significant family memory that touches the reader in a unique way. The Grannie Annie thanks each young author — and the author's family — for sharing this important part of their family's history.

Celebrate the Stories!

From North Carolina to Colorado, and from Minnesota to Alabama — and from India! — Grannie Annie stories have arrived!

Through the upcoming weeks, the submitted stories will be read and appreciated, then read and reread as the Selection Committee decides which stories will be published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 9. The titles of the stories chosen for publication, the names of their authors, and the names of illustrators whose work is chosen for publication will be announced on this website in mid-April. You can also follow the news on the Grannie Annie Facebook page.

For now, let the celebration continue! What does your Grannie Annie celebration include? Visit "The Grannie Annie Extension Activities" for inspiration, or send us your ideas to be added to the page.
